Happy Thanksgiving!

Thu Nov 26, 2009, 8:22 PM
  • Mood: Thanks
  • Reading: The Unforgiving Minute - Craig Mullaney
Even if you're not in the U.S.!

I recently just update from one holiday to the next... I'm sorry, but you can probably guess right now, the internet isn't the only thing I'm not caught up on T~T The internet is also very, incredibly slow and about to die at any given moment, but I only updated this now because my mom and brother have been on it all day, and you just don't do anyhting other than prepare before Thankgiving meal! (In singular, because you have to wait 'til 10PM before you eat anything after you awaken from the traditional food coma... )

...the internet was fine until a few days ago, when mom decided it was too slow and rewired something, shorted it out, today they rewired it again, my brother hooked it up so it would only work upstairs (on HIS computor! ) so I yelled until he rewired it down here, and then took over the computor to play a game ( I had been using it to try and finally write something, but noooooooo )

...I seriously shouldn't gripe about this stuff on Thanksgiving, but really, I was the only one who didn't complain about the internet being slow! MOM! STOP STRIVING FOR PERFECTION WHEN YOU KNOW THE COMPUTOR WILL CRASH, JUST AS IT HAS THE PAST FIVE TIMES WE TRIED TO DO ANYTHING WITH IT!!!

Anyway, there's something I have to recommend to everyone:

The book, The Unforgiving Minute by Craig M. Mullaney

Go to the nearest bookstore-- BUY IT RIGHT NOW! Or your library, whichever.

The book is an autobiography (of Craig Mullaney, obviously) and is about his schooling beginning at West Point and into the Army. It was written post 9/11 but contains events from before it, so really, it's a rounded viewpoint of someone who's been everything that we know as a general American. He's the son of a workman, a scholar and a soldier. And even though I haven't finished the book yet, I'm not even halfway done, I've already found things in this book that have really helped me out with my opinions of war and the army in general.

The line from where I last stopped reading really hit me, actually. Here it is...

"You are here for one reason." He paused for effect. "You are here for the troops you are going to lead. YOu are responsible for keeping them alive an accomplishing whatever mission you're given. I dont care ig you're tired, urt or lonely. This is for them. And they deserve better. You owe them your ranger tab.
"Fuck self pity," He added with a hiss. "this isn't about you"

Make what you want of that passage in particular... but really, find. That. Book.

HAPPY THAKSGIVING! WHETHER YOU HAVE A PHYSICAL ONE, A METAPHORICAL ONE, OR A RELIGIOUS ONE, THANK YOUR GUARDIAN ANGELS!(...mine happens to be physical, and I wouldn't be me or maybe here today without her...)
