CHAPTER 17
DGM HP X-OVER
Owners: JK Rowling and Hoshino Katsura
FF X-over author: Me (Muahahahaha!)

Allen looked like all the other champions when he arrived at te dock— scared out of their minds. Allen slowly unbuttoned his shirt, glancing at his arm every few seconds, as though hoping the ugly, dark red tattoo design would suddenly reappear on his arm, waiting for him to cover it up again. It didn't. And so, soon, he and Krum were standing beside each other on the dock, watching the stands fill up slowly, and waiting for Fleur and Cedric to finish changing. Krum looked over at him.

“Who did they take from you?” He asked. Allen looked at him questioningly.

“Did they vot take a person from you?” He inquired. Allen shook his head.

“No, but I cant lose it...” He said shakily. “I lost it once, and...” He swallowed hard, remembering when he had been attacked by Tyki. It was definitely one of his worst memories, along with the struggle to return to the battlefield that followed. “It... was bad...” Krum nodded.

“They took Herm-i-o-ninny...”

Allen looked up. “Hermione?” He asked. Krum nodded.

“My little seester, Gabrielle,” Fleur said, appearing in front of them with a flourish. She looked beautiful, as always. There were tears in the corners of her eyes. Allen looked at her sympathetically, she was much easier to feel emotion for her like this.

Cedric appeared right behind her and looked down. “Cho vanished this morning...” He said. Allen sighed and threw his head back.

“'Looks like we all will have some major mental scarring if we fail this...” He said. They all nodded.

“Harry, you were almost late!” Allen hissed as Harry ran onto the dock. Harry gasped apologies at the judges and bent over to try and catch his breath. Bagman stood up and told Harry to hurry, and prepared to blow the whistle....

Allen threw the small capsule he had been holding tightly in his right hand into his mouth  and dived in third, right after Fleur. He cracked it open with his teeth and swallowed the thick liquid it spewed, then, prayed to dearest God that the science department hadn't messed up on this one...

Slowly, he ran out of air. Allen had was the record holder in the entire Order for holding his breath, as once he stayed down for nearly six minutes and twenty-six seconds. Still, he didn't know quite if that was long enough for the potion (poision?) to work. He was already nearly thirty feet down and wondering if he would he able to get back up to the surface in enough time should he start to drown...

He mentally sighed, not wanting to waste precious air. There's only one way to do this I guess... He opened his mouth and took a big breath of water....

....and it went through his lungs like it were air. Science department, forgive me for doubting you! Newly reasured, he kicked his legs and sped off in the first direction he though to go in.

“Do you think he'll be okay?” Miranda asked. Lenalee smiled.

“Remember when everyone was infected with the virus?” She asked, “We were all pretty messed up, but if they can make things to turn Kanda and Lavi into ten-year-olds, they can have Allen breathe underwater.” She said confidently. Kanda and Lavi both groaned and mumbled insults to Komui under their breath, remembering the nightmare they had gone through that night.

Krory edged away slightly from them.

Allen had to admit, it was beautiful underneath the lake. Everything was glowing a sort of magical greenish color and floating. It was a bad way of describing it, but his brain was mostly on hold save for the thought of he needed to get his normal (wrong adjictive) arm back.

It made no sense to simply spread the items about the lake floor, otherwise, one champion may have an advantage over the rest, and so, they would all have to be in one place, the question was where. A treasure chest would be a typical thing, but there were people taken, not just items. Not only that, but since when did mermaids guard sunken treasure?

Lenalee had said very decisively that there were mermaids in the lake. She apparently was the mythology expert of the group (then again, they figured that out when she demanded Allen and Lavi not be bitten by the supposed vampire, which later turned out to be Krory).

And so, he searched everywhere for some place that looked like it may have been home to mermaids (not that he actually knew what that would look like, having no knowledge of even the fairytale ones until very, very recently.)

And so, he didn't take the warning when he passed the very ominous sunken ship. Even underwater, he could hear it creaking with the motion of the currents around it. Alge covered almost every foot and inch of it. Half of it looked caved in and ruined, like something had beaten on it repeatedly. Allen swam by it without taking notice.

Until the tentacle cam out of it, in any case.

Allen was slammed into a rock. Bubbles escaped his mouth as he opened it in suprise. More tentacles, nine, twelve, thirteen. Thirteen came out of the boat and at him. Allen panicked. Remembering the trick with the dragon, he slammed his leg against the rock and yanked it out of it's grip.

Damnit, that one tentacle was at least three times his arm's width. He grabbed the rocks edge and pulled himself around the back, hoping to get away. A giant shadow crept up above him. He looked up slowly, somewhat dreading what he would see.

A frickin' huge beak of a mouth.

He kicked off against the rock and swam as hard as he could, dreading as he felt something wrap around his left arm. Cold and stick, sucking on him... And then there was blood.

“You okay, Allen?” Allen tumbled back through the water and the sudden restraint vanished. He finally found his back to a rock not far away from where he had been saved. Looking up, he saw a shadow against the water. Swimming towards him, kicking two legs. “Hey, you alright?” It asked again, “You didn't get hit in the head, did ya?”

Allen shook his head drearily but held it all the same, recovering from the dizziness shock had brought. About that point, he actually regained some sight out of the momentary dark light that had come over his vision.

“C-Cedric?” He asked, trying to see the face clearer. Cedric nodded.

“I got lost and wound up here... guess it's a good thing, huh?” Allen gave a weak laugh and nod. Cedric pulled him back into floating in the water. Allen finally noticed at that point he had a bubble charm around his head. “Can you swim again?” Allen nodded and kicked distractedly, following along beside Cedric, who seemed to know where he was going.

Allen searched around for words, still recovering slightly, not used to fighting without his arm. “Um, Cedric?” He asked. His senior looked back at him. “How did you cut the squid?” Cedric pulled a swish-army knife out of his pocket, then pulled out his want and made the blade grow til it was as long as his arm.

“Why didnt you cut it, Allen?” He asked. Allen paled somewhat. “I know you don't have a knife on you or anything, but you survived the dragon, so I don't see why a squid was suck a big deal,” Allen missed the bad joke.

“I... uh...” He looked around for a change of topic frantically. Even a 'hey look, a penny!' would have worked quite well.

Cedric frowned a but behind his bubble head charm. “Whatever happened to the rumors about exorcists having weapons on them at all times, anyway?” He asked, “I mean, I know that's just stereotypical jargan, but it was one of the few I actually believed about exorcists.”

Allen swam ahead of Cedric. “That's what they took.” He said simply. “I  lose it again and I'm dead.”

“Your weapon?” Cedric blanched. Allen nodded.

“And just a little bit more...”

Harry and Cedric half raced into the mermaid village. Well, racing as well as possible when underwater. The village was eerie in a sense only the bottom of a giant lake could give, and it did not help that the occupants of it were far from the creatures Lavi had been jealous of Allen to be able to see. They looked something of the stereotypical version of deamons. Far, far different from an akuma, and yet strangely just as menacing as a level three.

Allen bit the side of his mouth subconsciously and chewed it over. It would be swollen and sore later. Moving through the underwater world, he got the feeling they were very close. There were more mermaids and mermen, all with spears and swords and tritons. Not only that, but the people tied onto the huge statue were something of giveaways.

Cedric sped up even more. Allen felt a blast of hot water on his face and was sure Cedric was using magic to give him that extra burst of speed. He shouted at a figure close to the bottom of the statue, sawed off the first person he came to, Cho Chang, and then rocketed towards the surface.

As Allen got closer (he was much slower than Cedric, as not having magic as an aid), he saw Harry at the foot of the statue. He waved to him, but paid the younger wizard not much more attention. He was too busy looking.

Harry swam down to him, carrying a form Allen recognized as Ron. Harry had gills and fins, Allen could see, now that he was closer. It entitled him to stare for a moment before looking where he was pointing. A small cage by the bottom of the statue, old and somewhat rusted by being underwater too long. Inside was a very bright white blanket and a mask.

Not a  blanket, a long, caped cowl and a thespian mask. Allen smiled widely and swam down to see if he could break the lock.

Needless to say, breaking the lock took about a ten seconds at most. Harry simply stared at Allen as his fingers moved in complicated patterns with the hairpin he had pulled out of no where. And within almost no time, there was a soft click echoing through the water and Allen was pulling the soft white cape out. Allen noticed his look and shrugged as best he could when underwater.

“You learn stuff in eighteen-hundreds England,” Was all he said. Harry nodded and shrugged as Krum rocketed through the water with the head of a shark. Hermione (with help from Harry) was soon being pulled to the surface, unharmed by shark teeth.

And then the minutes passed. Neither Harry nor Allen wanted to leave the final victim, a little girl who looked only eight. Finally, Harry turned around and simply started hacking at the rope with a sharp rock. The mermaids started to charge at him.

Harry stuck out his wand and handed the rock to Allen as he approached. The rope was cut quickly and soon they were both on the run from angry stampeedes of mermaids.

Allen collapsed on the deck of tiredness and for once did not object as Lenalee ranted over him getting hurt. Madam Pomphrey quickly cleaned out the cuts he had gotten from the giant squid— who amazingly enough turned out to be his savior as they couldn't take off points for being late— and fussing over how dangerous the tournament was.

He watched half amused as Harry  and Ron and Hermione had an argument over Harry's 'hero complex'. Lavi however, got an elbow in the gut when he mentioned that Allen probably had a worse hero complex than Harry, and Kanda adding in the comment about his martyr complex didn't help very much.

The argument soon erupted into a name-calling match including 'perverted bunny rabbit', 'straight-cut fringe femmie-face' and 'Glutton al la Short'.

Around that point, Lenalee shut them up (using a misplaced school textbook) and had them pay attention to the judging.

Allen got second behind Harry and Cedric.
I bombed XP :dead::dead::dead::dead::dead::dead::dead::dead::dead::dead:

eff.... well, it's up, anyway... for once, I got it up before I was threatened with a chainsaw....

interesting fact: The whole reason I wanted to write this crossover was to do the lake scene, and now that I'm here, I'm convinced I absolutely hate it ^^;

I think that it's really good! I like how Allen lost his innocence (out of context that sounds so wrong), because it's true that he would be totally screwed without it.
